Interim Department Chair, String Area Leader, Classical Guitar, Music Theory
A Tennessee 福利影院最新网址 faculty member since the fall of 2000, Professor Richard Todd received the B.M., summa cum laude, in Guitar Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the M.M. in Guitar Performance from Southern Methodist University, and the D.M.A. in Guitar Performance from the University of North Texas. He also studied extensively with world-renowned guitarist Matteo Mela in Cremona, Italy. In his formative years, he earned a number of awards, including First Prize in both the Music Teachers鈥 National Association Competition and the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition.
Dr. Todd currently serves as Interim Chair of the Music Department. He teaches Guitar and Music Theory courses. He also serves as Coordinator of Musicianship and of the String area. In addition to his teaching duties, he maintains an active performing career.听Soundboard听Magazine has described his playing as 鈥渟ubtly brilliant,鈥 displaying 鈥渞ich tone, effortless phrasing and a masterful use of silence.鈥澨The Fort Worth Star-Telegram听noted his playing for its 鈥渃onsiderable energy and impressive virtuosity.鈥澨 His CD recording in duo with Atlanta guitarist John Huston,听Pura Vida, was described by听Soundboard听as 鈥減owerful and dramatic.鈥澨齅ore recently, he released a streaming audio recording with oboist Jared Hauser, Montrose Duo: Piazzolla, Gershwin, Debussy, Ravel, Falla, on the Blue Griffin Recording label. Subsequently, the Duo co-published 2 sets of arrangements for Oboe and Guitar: Claude Debussy: Three Pieces: R锚verie, Arabesques 1 & 2, and Maurice Ravel: Cinq M茅lodies Populaires Grecques, for Classical Guitar Study Editions.
In addition to his teaching and performing activities, Dr. Todd serves as President of Classical Guitar Nashville (www.classicalguitarnashville.org),听听a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering guitar artistry, outreach and education in the Greater Nashville area. He is also听听Artistic Director of CGN's Virtuoso Classical Guitar Series. This four-concert annual Series presents great guitarists from around the world at Saint David's Episcopal Church in West Meade.
